Tim Holtz Festive Distress Class at the Queens Ink

I took a class at the Queens Ink in Savage Mill where we made the three different cards, two of the Tim Holtz Festive Distress Cards:

'Tis the Season

Seasons Greetings

And one additional card:

With the left overs from the class, I was able to make several more cards.  The Seasons Greetings cards were very similar to what we did in class.

For the 'Tis the Season card, I changed the background. For the background of the card, I used:
  • TCW Aspen Trees Stencil
  • Background - Black Soot, Tumbled Glass, Stormy Sky, and Faded Jeans Distressed Inks
  • Deer - Old Paper, Pumice Stonr, Grayed Burlap and Walnut Stain Distressed Inks
  • Psst Sheer Shimmer Spritz
Using the stencil, I sponged the various distressed inks.  I then sprayed the finished piece with the Psst Sheer Shimmer Spritz.  I used a variety of Distressed inks on the chip board deer.

Christmas Cards 2014 - Card 3

For this card, I used the Tim Holtz Tattered Poinsettia Die and Embossing folder.

  • Tim Holtz Tattered Poinsettia Die and Embossing Folder
  • Burlap
  • Stampendous Detailed Gold Embossing Powder
  • Versamark
  • Spellbinders Oval Die
  • Gina K Simple Snowflakes Stamp set
To make the card, I cut the Poinsettia with red, green and gold card stock.  I then embossed the leaves with the coordinating embossing folder, and attached all of the layers.  I cut a small oval with a Spellbinders die, and then stamped with Versamark using a sentiment from the Gina K Designs Simple Snowflake stamp set.  I added the detailed Gold Embossing Powder and heat set.  To finish the card, I added a strip of burlap to the card base, and then attached the poinsettia and sentiment.

Christmas Cards 2014 - Card 2

This card was a quick card to make!  Its 4.25 x 5.5

For this card, I used:

  • Tim Holtz Holiday Knit Stencil
  • Pan Pastels 340.5 Permanent Red
  • Pan Pastels 921.5 Pewter
  • Recollections Merry Christmas Stamp
  • Versamark
  • Stampendous Detailed White Embossing Powder
  • Vellum
  • White Card Stock
  • DCWV Solid Glitter A2 Card - Silver

To make this card, I placed the stencil over the white card stock and used the Versamark stamp pad to stamp through the stencil.  The stencil was then removed, and the card stock was covered with Red Pan Pastels, followed by the Pewter Pan Pastels to add a shimmer.  The stenciled area was then trimmed to 3.25 x 4.5.  A  1" strip of Vellum was cut, and stamped in Versamark with the Merry Christmas stamp.  The Versamark was covered with Detailed White embossing powder and heat set.  This was then added to the stenciled card and attached to the Silver Glitter card.

Christmas Cards 2014 - Card 1

Here is the first of the Christmas Cards I made this year. I made several of these cards, using different colored card stock, embossing powders, and Pan Pastels.

For these cards I used:

  • Stampendous Detailed White Embossing Powder
  • Stampendous Detailed Gold Embossing Powder
  • Pan Pastels 930.5 Bronze
  • Pan Pastels 920.5 Silver
  • Stampendous Delicate Snowflakes
  • Stampendous Delicate Snowflakes dies
  • Versamark
  • Gina K Designs Let it Snow stamp set
  • Elizabeth Craft Designs Stand Up Helper Set 2
  • Silver Glitter Lines 7020
  • Recollections background stamp

To make these cards, I stamped the largest snowflake from the Detailed Snowflakes stamp set and the sentiment with Versamark.  I added Detailed Gold Embossing Powder and heat set.

Like the previous cards, I stamped the snowflake and sentiment with Versamark.  I then used Bronze Pan Pastels and covered the card.  Pan Pastels sticks to Versamark more than to the card base (there is a shimmer to the background that can't be seen in the photo.  I then sealed the Pan Pastels.  There is a slight difference between the card using Pan Pastels and Embossing Powder.

The Pan Pastels card has a much flatter appearance.  Here is a sample of both side by side with the Embossing Powder on the left and the Pan Pastels on the Right).

For the next version of the card, I stamped the snowflake and sentiment with Versamark, the added Detailed White embossing powder and heat set.   I used the Stand Up Helper Snowflake and the Silver Glitter lines to complete this card.

For the last version of the card, I stamped only the snowflake with Versamark, added detailed white embossing powder and heat set.  I then cut out the snowflake with the coordinating die.  For the background, I stamped the Recollections stamp with Versamark on white card stock.  I then covered the card stock with Silver Pan Pastels.  The Pan Pastels "sticks" to the Versamark and leaves a slight shimmer to the rest of the card stock.  The white embossed snowflake was added to finish the card.

Birthday Card using Stand Up Helper from Elizabeth Craft Designst

Here is a birthday card I made using several products from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  The card is 4.25 x 5.5.

For this card I used:

  • Elizabeth Craft Designs Stand Up Helper "Happy Birthday"
  • Glitter Ritz Warm Highlight
  • Copic Markers: YR15, Y13, G21, G46, YG07
  • Spellbinders Oval Die
  • Elizabeth Craft Designs Candle Peel-off Sticker in Black 2545
  • Shimmer Sheets
  • Cuttlebug Happy Birthday Embossing Folder
  • Sookwang Double sided tape

To make the card, I added the Sookwang tape to white card stock, exposed the adhesive and added the candle peel-off stickers.  Warm Highlight glitter was added and then the candles colored with Copic markers, and fussy cut out. Using another piece of white card stock, I added Sookwang tape, and die cut the oval and the Happy Birthday Stand Up helper.  After exposing the adhesive, Warm Highlight Glitter was added to both pieces.  The candles were added to the oval, and the Happy Birthday was added over the Happy Birthday cut into the card base.  A piece of Shimmer Sheets was embossed and sanded a bit.  The oval with the candles was added on top of the embossed Shimmer Sheets.  The card was then assembled,

Spring and Fall Skeleton Leaves

Both of these cards use the same stamp, Skeleton Leaves, but the techniques are different.  For the Fall card, I used Distressed Inks on white card stock.  For the Spring card, I used Copics on vellum paper.

For the Fall card I used:

  • Fired Brick Distressed Ink
  • Peeled Paint Distressed Ink
  • Rusty Hinge Distressed Ink
  • Wild Honey Distressed Ink

For the Spring Card I used:

  • Copic Markers: R24, G46, G24, YR18, Y17

For both cards I used:

  • Versamark
  • Stampendous Detailed White Embossing Powder
  • Stampendous Detailed Gold Embossing Powder
  • Close to My Heart Artiste Cricut Cartridge
  • Close to My Heart Holiday Tags stamp set
  • Technique Junkies Skeleton Leaves Stamp
  • Ribbon
Fall Card:

To make this card, I randomly sponged the distressed inks on white card stock.  I then stamped the Skeleton Leaves stamp with Versamark, added the white embossing powder and heat set.  I then cut the oval shape for the sentiment from the Artiste Cricut Cartridge, and using the matching stamps, stamped the sentiment in Versamark, added the Gold embossing powder and heat set.  Ribbon and the sentiment were added to the card.  I like this card, since you don't know what the final version will look like.

Spring Card:

To make this card, using Versamark, I stamped the Skeleton Leaves stamp on vellum paper.  I added white embossing powder and heat set.  On the back side of the vellum paper, I then colored the leaves with Copic Markers.  I chose brighter colors of Copics for this, since they will have a bit of a washed out look from the front of the card.  I then used double sided tape to attach the vellum paper to white card stock.  The oval shape for the sentiment was cut from the Artiste Cricut Cartridge, and using the matching stamps, stamped the sentiment with Versamark, added white embossing powder and heat set.  Ribbon and the sentiment were added to complete the card.

One Stencil, Different Techniques

I recently purchased several Heidi Swapp stencils.  I tried three different techniques with the stencils to see which looks I liked, and liked doing.

For the first one (Blue on Blue), I created a background using several different colors of Pan Pastels, then using the template I applied Versamark,  I then went over the entire image with the lightest color of Pan Pastels. This created a soft background.

For the second one (pinks and reds) I simply used the stencil and applied several different Distressed Inks with a Mini Blending tool.  This was the easiest, and I liked the result, although it was a bit flat.

The third one (white and blues), using the template, I applied Versamark, and then embossed with white embossing powder.  I then used several colors of Distressed Ink.  While I liked this one the best, it was not as easy to create, and for a background, I don't think I would use this technique.

Altenew Henna Elements Card

When I saw the Altenew Henna Elements stamp set I knew I had to have it.  I love the flowers in this set!

Here is the card that I made:

For the card, I used:
  • Altenew Henna Elements
  • Stampendous Detailed White Embossing Power
  • Versamark
  • Copic Markers YR14, YG25, T2, R24, YR07, Y17, G09, V04
To make the card, I stamped the various flowers and leaves with Versamark, and then embossed with the Detailed White Embossing power.  Since the card base is a kraft paper, I chose to use the brightest Copics I had in my collection to color the flowers (although I did need to tone down the G09 with T2).  I did color over the embossing to add additional color to the card.

  • Blooms and Blossoms Stamp set from Gina K Designs
  • Memento Tuxedo Black and Desert Sand Ink

To make the card, I stamped the flowers from the Just Because stamp set, twice with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I also stamped the Thanks sentiment with Tuxedo Black ink.  I then colored the flowers with Copic Markers. The images were then cut using the matching dies.  I used various heights of pop dots to add dimension to the finished card.

Fathers Day Cards

Here are a few of the Fathers Day cards I've made.

The cards a 4 x 5.25.  The cards were made with the following:

  • Taylored Expression Ray of Sunshine Die
  • Variety of coordinating papers
  • Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
  • Spellbinders Oval Dies
  • Stamps - The Bicycle is from CMTH Enjoy Like Stamp set.  The other stamps are from Hero Arts.

To make the card, I used the Ray of Sunshine die and with my Cuttlebug, cut it 5 times with different paper.  I then added the frame to a card front.  I then added the pieces to the frame.  The images were stamped, and then cut with an oval Spellbinders die and added to the card.

Tulip Card

The tulip stamp for this card is a Greenhouse Society stamp, which I really like.  It can be used to make some great spring/summer themed cards.

This card is 4 x 5.5, and was made with the following:
  • Greenhouse Society Tulip stamp (Technique Tuesday)
  • Recollections Background Stamp
  • Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder
  • Spellbinders Oval die
  • Copic Markers, G21, G24, G46, BV00, BV11, BV13
  • Memento Ink Black and London Fog

To make the card, I first stamped the background image using the Recollections stamp and London Fog ink.  I then stamped the tulips on top of the background using the Black ink.

The tulips were then colored with Copic markers.

To assemble the card, I first cut the oval from the center of the purple card stock, then embossed using the Swiss Dots embossing folder.  I placed the stamped image centered in the oval and attached it to the card base.
